Tomorrow we have a duo of childhood favorites as food holidays:
- 'National French Fries Day'.
[The Hankster says] I'm still eating American Fries myself. Yes, I am slow to forget.
- 'National Beans ‘N’ Franks Day'.
[The Hankster says] Not only a childhood favorite, but a hurricane survival kit staple for us in Texas.
Tomorrow is 'Embrace Your Geekness Day'.
[The Hankster says] If I have to explain it, then you are not a Geek and would waste the hours doing something sensible or useful.
Find three friends and practice your 'me, me, me's'. Tomorrow is 'Barbershop Music Appreciation Day'. Birth date of the 'Sweet Adelines' in 1945.
While your voice is still in tune, you might want to celebrate 'International Town Criers Day' tomorrow.
[The Hankster says] I think it would be cool for a quartet to do the work of the on man. You cold info the people and lull them to sleep afterwards with some sweet harmonizing.
It is 'Fool’s Paradise Day' tomorrow.
[The Hankster says] I won't go far with this one. You make it, you will live it, you suffer the consequences. It's like the joy of eating all the candy you want, until the dentist bill comes.
We have a health related awareness day tomorrow. It will be 'GIST Awareness Day'.
GIST is Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors, a cancer of the gastrointestinal tract.
Historical events in the past on: July 13
In 1832, The source of the Mississippi River is discovered by Henry R Schoolcraft. It is the small glacial 'Lake Itasca' in north central Minnesota, at southeastern Clearwater County within what is now Itasca State Park.
In 1836, The US patent #1, under the new numbering system, was for a cog mechanism for locomotive wheels. There were 9,957 prior patents (X-Patents), from 1790 to 1836, lost to fire. Only some, a little of 2,000, were reissued by their inventor. The old patents were destroyed in a temporary building while a new fireproof building was being built.
The building also suffered a fire many years later.
In 1865, Horace Greeley reputedly advises his readers to 'Go west young man', but the source and date cited does not contain that phrase. Greeley himself, said that he never
initiated it.
In 1923 - The Hollywood Sign is officially dedicated in the hills above Hollywood. At that time it read 'Hollywoodland.', as it was an advertisement for a proposed housing project. The sign came into disrepair. When it was renewed, the 'land.' was eliminated.
In 1977, NYC experiences a 25 hour blackout. From Wikipedia: 'The events leading up to the blackout began at 8:37 p.m. EDT on July 13 with a lightning strike at Buchanan South, a substation on the Hudson River, tripping two circuit breakers in Buchanan, New York. The Buchanan South substation converted the 345,000 volts of electricity from Indian Point to lower voltage for commercial use. A loose locking nut combined with a tardy upgrade cycle prevented the breaker from reclosing and allowing power
to flow
again.'
'Unlike other blackouts that affected the region, namely the Northeast blackouts of 1965 and 2003, the 1977 blackout was localized to New York City and the immediate surroundings. Also in contrast to the 1965 and 2003 blackouts, the 1977 blackout resulted in city-wide looting and other disorders, including arson.'

July is:
July origin (from Wikipedia): Named by the Roman Senate in honor of Julius Caesar.
"is the seventh month of the year (between June
and August) in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars and one of seven months
with the length of 31 days. It was named by the Roman Senate in honor of
the Roman general, Julius Caesar, it being the month of his birth. Prior
to that, it was called Quintilis. It is, on average, the warmest month in
most of the Northern hemisphere (where it is the second month of summer)
and the coldest month in much of the Southern hemisphere (where it
is the second month of winter). The second half of the year commences in
July. In the Southern hemisphere, July is the seasonal equivalent of
January in the Northern hemisphere."
