National Apple Pie Day: More
National Fruit Cocktail Day More
National Crouton Day: More
Tomorrow we have three food holidays:
- ' National Apple Pie Day'.
[The Hankster says] I still think this should be on Mother's day, but I'll have a big piece or two, anyway, just to show there are no hard feelings. I often make such sacrifices for the good of others.
- 'National Fruit Cocktail Day'.
[The Hankster says] For those who don't like crust with their fruit.
- 'National Crouton Day'.
[The Hankster says] Well, I guess you will have to start with a healthy salad first.
Tomorrow is 'Leprechaun Day'.
[The Hankster says] I almost caught one of these little ones, once, near the north end of a rainbow. Just as I was going to grab him, I tripped over a stupid pot of gold, and he got away. I guess I am just not destined to be rich.
Tomorrow is 'National Frog Jumping Day'.
[The Hankster says] Don't bother putting on your lab coat and charging up that galvanic battery. These are live ones. The day celebrating Mark Twain's short story. The
Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, however begins on May 14.
Take some flowers to your favorite business buffer person. Tomorrow is 'National Receptionists Day'. Second Wednesday in May
[The Hankster says]Well if not flowers, at least a kind word. After all she/he does have to put up with you.
If you have ever worked a third shift, you can appreciate tomorrow's 'National Third Shift Workers Day'. Second Wednesday in May. Also known as 'Night Shift Workers Day'.
Awareness / Observance Days on: May 13
o Health
- 'National Patients’ Day (Hughes Syndrome)'. From the web site: ' Known medically as the antiphospholipid syndrome and more colloquially as ‘sticky blood’, Hughes syndrome is an autoimmune disease which affects the blood and its ability to clot. An overactive immune system produces antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) which cause the blood to clot too quickly both in veins and arteries'.
o Other
- 'Abbotsbury Garland Day: More
In the English Dorset village of Abbotsbury since the early 1800's. It concerns the making of garlands by the children of the village. It was originally celebrated by the children of fisherman. Now all children can participate and the garlands are not just blessed and thrown on the sea, but carried from house to house with a monetary gift is expected.
Peter Drucker once said 'Time is the scarcest resource and unless it is managed nothing else can be managed.'
[The Hankster says] Managing your time is a good thing. I would go farther and say to manage that time which you have set aside for other than some needed leisure. Let us see how many Jack's (dull boys) who did nothing but work and how many there were who took time for a little play. Any day is a good indicator. I choose (it's my post) May 13.
In 1787, Captain Arthur Phillip leaves Portsmouth, England, with eleven ships full of convicts (the 'First Fleet') to establish a penal colony in Australia.

May is:
May origin (from Wikipedia):
The month May was named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified
with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was
held in May. Conversely, the Roman poet Ovid provides a second etymology,
in which he says that the month of May is named for the maiores, Latin for
'elders,' and that the following month (June) is named for the iuniores, or 'young people'
May
'
is the fifth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars and one of seven months with the length of 31 days.
May is a month of Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere and spring in the Northern Hemisphere (Summer in Europe). Therefore May in the Southern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent of November in the Northern Hemisphere and vice versa.
