National Fruitcake Day: More
Tomorrow's food holiday will be 'National Fruitcake Day'.
[The Hankster says] 'My name is Henry and I love fruitcake.'
Again this year, I will have a collection box outside my front door, to collect any cakes that you got as gifts and don't want. For you fruitcake catapulters out there, please email me for the coordinates of a big box I have set up in my backyard for the delivery of unguided aerial receipts. Drone users should use the small landing pad next to the box. Just remember, Fruitcakes need love too. Using them as doorstops or repackaging them for an annual cyclical re gifting is very demeaning.
For the creative out there. Tomorrow is ' Make Cut-out Snowflakes Day'.
[The Hankster says] I can remember when I was a kid and first learned to make these. It is a great way to keep some little ones busy. Just have a vacuum handy.
Tomorrow is also 'Visit The Zoo Day'.
Roy Bean once said 'Time will pass and seasons will come and go.'
[The Hankster says]. Well, if time stood still, I would have only half a post. I guess the passage of time is one thing that is impressed on me, on a daily basis. Even if I have done nothing of note, others have. Let us see what some did back on December 27 in the past.
In 1831, Charles Darwin sets out on HMS Beagle expedition and begins to develop his Theory of Evolution.
In 1922, The Japanese aircraft carrier Hosho becomes the first purpose built aircraft carrier to be commissioned in the world. Other nations, like the U.S. had converted other ships to aircraft carriers by adding a flight deck. The 'first successful launch of an aircraft from a ship, using a temporary wooden platform for a flight deck on the cruiser USS Birmingham' on November 14 1910. At this time they were one way flights, to a landing on land.
In 1927 - Show Boat, considered to be the first true American musical play, opens at the Ziegfeld Theater on Broadway.
In 1932, Radio City Music Hall opens in New York City.
In 1947, The TV show 'Howdy Doody Show' (Puppet Playhouse), first telecast on NBC.
In 1968, Apollo 8 returns to Earth. This was the moon orbiting mission referred to in recent posts.

December origin (from Wikipedia): '
December gets its name from the Latin word decem (meaning ten) because it was originally the tenth month of the year in the Roman calendar, which began in March. The winter days following December were not included as part of any month. Later, the months of January and February were created out of the monthless period and added to the beginning of the calendar, but December retained its name.
