National Maple Syrup Day: More
Tomorrow's food holiday will be 'National Maple Syrup Day'.
[The Hankster says] Another food holiday that should have co-designates. Shouldn't that be Pancake and Maple Syrup or Waffle and Maple Syrup day? BTW, it takes from 30-50 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup, and it does not hurt the tree, to take the sap, as it is only about 10 percent of the total yearly sap output.
Up, Up and away in my beautiful, heavier than air, mechanically propelled airplane . Yep, tomorrow is 'Wright Brothers Day'.
[The Hankster says] You can't let this one fly by (sorry). 'The President is requested to issue each year a proclamation inviting the people of the United States to observe Wright Brothers Day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.' See more in 1903 below.
Blimey, tomorrow is ' International Talk with a Fake British Accent Day'.
[The Hankster says] We Yanks in the colonies should be able to have some fun with this. Let the international implications, fall where they may.
Henry Ford one said 'Most people spend more time and energy going around problems than in trying to solve them.'
[The Hankster says] On this post, we wisely spend our time by going directly to the target in mind. History passes us by like Ford's assembly line. Let's throw the monkey wrench of inquisitiveness into the works and see if we can stop it on December 17.
In 1843, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is first published.
In 1903, Orville Wright took an airplane for a 12-second flight for about 120 ft. It was the first successful piloted powered flight in history. Wilbur, had tried first three days earlier with a three second failure.
In 1935, The first flight of the Douglas DC-3 is made. This became, at the time, a work-horse for both private and the military (U.S. C-47 Skytrain, U.K. Dakota) use. Many of both models are still in use, somewhere tin the world today.
In 1965, The first celebrity event of the newly opened Houston Astrodome, is made by Judy Garland with The Supremes as her opening group.
In 1969, The USAF closes Project Blue Book, concluding no evidence of extraterrestrial spaceships behind thousands of UFO sightings.
[The Hankster says' That was a relief. I could stop taking pictures of flying garbage can lids, flickering street lights and swamp gas.
In 1989, The premiere of The Simpsons. This was the Christmas special 'Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire'.' The TV series started in Jan. of the next year.

The winter days following December were not included as part of any month. Later, the months of January and February were created out of the monthless period and added to the beginning of the calendar, but December retained its name.
