National Toasted Marshmallow Day: More
Tomorrow is 'National Toasted Marshmallow Day'. Actually, I think I made more of them, on the end of a long two-pronged fork, over a gas range burner, than over the camp fire. I blackened more than I turned golden brown, but it was still a special treat, to make and eat.
While the stove is hot, consider 'International Bacon Day' tomorrow, it being the Saturday before Labor Day.
Have I got a whale of a holiday for you tomorrow. It will be 'International Whale Shark Day'. These are the huge, but gentle filter feeders. No chance of a movie contract for these guys.
'Speaking of contracts. Tomorrow is also 'Franchise Appreciation Day'. So go to one of those big name, locally run stores and make a bunch of people happy.
Tomorrow's date was Mary Shelley's birthday in 1797. So celebrate 'Frankenstein Day' tomorrow.
Tomorrow we celebrate 'Slinky Day'. Actually sixty nine years old (1945) . Discovered by accident when a spring fell off a work bench. I loved mine for about a week. Then decided that it could do no more tricks, so I tried to see how far it would stretch.
What walks down stairs, alone or in pairs
and makes a slinkity sound?
A spring, a spring, a marvelous thing!
Everyone knows it's Slinky.
It's Slinky, it's Slinky,
It's fun, it's a wonderful toy.
It's Slinky, it's Slinky, it's fun,
It's a wonderful toy.
It's fun for a girl or a boy.

August is:
August origin (from Wikipedia): Originally named Sextili (Latin), because it was the sixth month in the original ten-month Roman calendar: under Romulus in 753 BC, when March was the first month of the year.
"About 700 BC it became the eighth month when January and February were added to the year before March by King Numa Pompilius, who also gave it 29 days. Julius Caesar added two days when he created the Julian calendar in 45 BC giving it its modern length of 31 days. In 8 BC it was renamed in honor of Augustus
According to a Senatus consultum quoted by Macrobius, he chose this month because it was the time of several of his great triumphs, including the conquest of Egypt.
