Bratwurst Day : More
If you retired your BBQ pit for the summer, you will want to get it out again. Tomorrow will be Bratwurst Day'. Old High German. brät-finely chopped meat, Wurst- sausage.
Let's celebrate the invention of the rollercoaster tomorrow. It will be 'National Rollercoaster Day' to celebrate a patent issued in 1865. Up and down and a jerk to the left or right is OK, but the rotating rides like the cup-and-saucer always made be ill as a kid. I hated it, when some other kids would spin the wheel to make the cup go around faster. The rotation of the saucer was enough for me. I don't dare try to see if I have outgrown it.
'National Airborne Day'. This is a day designated by the U.S. Congress , 2009, to honor the day in 1940 that shewed the usefulness of an airborne division in the US Army.
We have several holidays to celebrate tomorrow, on the third Saturday in August of 2014.
'International/National Homeless Animals Day'. Adopt a pet if you can. You will be doing yourself a favor as well as the animal. Nothing will warm your heart like the knowing look of your pet or make you laugh when they have done something funny.
Start posting your favorite joke. Tomorrow will be 'National Tell a Joke Day (Joe Miller's Joke Day)'. Miller was an 18th century English actor who was best known for his jests (one-liners). I guess he was sort of the Henny Youngman of his day.
'International Geocaching Day'. Here is your chance to go on an established treasure hunt to find a hidden cache using your GPS or other devices.
'World Honey Bee Day'. How sweet it is. Com on, you didn't really think I could pass that one up, did you?
Going over some old notes, I find these events of interest on August 16 in the past:

August is:
August origin (from Wikipedia): Originally named Sextili (Latin), because it was the sixth month in the original ten-month Roman calendar: under Romulus in 753 BC, when March was the first month of the year.
"About 700 BC it became the eighth month when January and February were added to the year before March by King Numa Pompilius, who also gave it 29 days. Julius Caesar added two days when he created the Julian calendar in 45 BC giving it its modern length of 31 days. In 8 BC it was renamed in honor of Augustus
According to a Senatus consultum quoted by Macrobius, he chose this month because it was the time of several of his great triumphs, including the conquest of Egypt.
